Chan Luu Designs Capella Pedregal Bracelet

One of the most colorful and culturally rich Mexican holidays, The Day of The Dead, is approaching fast.  The Chef is already preparing the holiday menu, and we are planning the decorations for the hotel grounds.  Besides all the usual preparations, this year Capella Pedregal is hosting a special event.  Luxury designer Chan Luu is coming to present her limited edition Day of the Dead wrap bracelet, created exclusively for and inspired by Capella Pedregal and Mexico.

Chan Luu arrived in the United States from Vietnam in 1972.  She studied fashion and was working as a buyer when she had a serendipitous meeting with an Indian holy man.  He was wearing a “worn but cool, colored-thread bracelet from a local temple,” describes Luu, who was struck by inspiration.  She created her own wrap bracelet using leather cord and handmade sterling silver nugget beads.  It was her namesake jewelry and fashion line’s first offering and “amazingly, it’s still our bestseller,” says Luu, who lives in Los Angeles.  Today she has 12 design assistants who help produce her prolific patterns in an assortment of colors.

Everyone here at the hotel is very excited for Chan Luu’s pending visit and of course to have the property and holiday captured in one of her designs.  When asked about the bracelet, Chan Luu explained, “I wanted to create a piece that represents the style and elegancy of the resort, while at the same time show off the Day of the Dead as one of the most signature Mexican holidays.  I played with Capella Pedregal’s blue color, and represented it with natural dark grey leather and dark blue Fire Agate.  To add contrast I included contrasting silver thread, which adds elegancy, and of course, at the end, I matched the design with sterling silver skulls.  This way the bracelet is very elegant, as Capella Pedregal, but festive at the same time.”

Chan Luu will be at Capella Pedregal from November 1st through November 3, 2012.  This is a great opportunity to preview her latest designs, learn more about her passion and vision, and to celebrate Day of the Dead with us.
